"You should never dye your hair, it's a god-given gift of which to be proud about"
After giving birth to two children, my mother had to sacrifice her beautiful silky hair as a result of postpartum hairloss. She became very insecure about her patchy head and would sometimes express her vulnerable side when it comes to establishing her personal image as a woman. Although motherhood might have toughen her up, my mother's feelings are always transparent whenever she looks into the mirror for combing. A sense of grief slightly emerges within her eyes.
It is only until 17, as a woman-about-to-be, was I able to experience the disconnection with my authentic self due to challenges that I face in life. Understanding how destructive of an impact a loss of identity can cause, this illustration is dedicated to my mother as an encouraging gift for her self reclamation journey, as well as a way of expressing my gratitude towards the most important woman in my life.
